Public lecture to explore cultural significance of Anthropocene

The Brock Talks public lecture series returns to the St. Catharines Public Library on Wednesday, March 27 with a conversation about the cultural significance of the Anthropocene, a proposed new geologic era reflecting the impact of human activity on the planet.

Speaking at the event will be Christine Daigle, Professor of Philosophy and Director of the Posthumanism Research Institute; Adam Dickinson, Professor of English Language and Literature; and Francine McCarthy, Professor of Earth Sciences.

Building on a research project led by Daigle, funded by a Government of Canada Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council Insight Grant, the group will discuss how their interdisciplinary research approach is investigating urgent issues triggered by scientific findings at Crawford Lake, located in Milton, Ont., and beyond.

“The Anthropocene as Scientific and Cultural Concept (for our Times)” begins at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27 at the St. Catharines Central Library, located at 54 Church St. For more information, please visit ExperienceBU.
