Third-year English Literature and Visual Arts student Jo McLeish has a passion for making plush animals with embroidered details — a skill she perfected by accessing the Brock Library’s Makerspace.
McLeish, accompanied by her mother Susan MacDonald, was among 14 vendors who showcased their expertise and sold their creations as part of Brock’s first-ever Makerfest hosted by the Makerspace on Thursday, March 14 in the Rankin Family Pavilion.
The event, which celebrated innovation and community artists by highlighting new and digital technologies, welcomed more than 400 students, faculty, staff and community members.
“Makerfest was incredibly successful,” says Makerspace Supervisor Derek Schneider. “We have received really positive feedback from everyone involved and are already looking at ways we can expand for next year.”
The Makerspace is always looking to connect with Brock partners and community organizations. For more information, email makerspace@brocku.ca or visit the Makerspace website.
