Thesis defences — Oct. 2 to Oct. 6

The following is a list of thesis defences taking place between Monday, Oct. 2 and Friday, Oct. 6.

Master of Science in Computer Science thesis defences

Pranjal Chakraborty, a Master of Science in Computer Science candidate, will defend the thesis “Memory Pressure: Early Identification and Proactive Taming in Resource Constrained Devices” on Monday, Oct. 2 at 9:30 a.m. in PLZ 601C.

Karl Grantham, a Master of Science in Computer Science candidate, will defend the thesis “AI Enabled Drug Design and Side Effect Prediction Powered by Multi-Objective Evolutionary Algorithms & Transformer Models” on Monday, Oct. 2 at 12:30 p.m. in PLZ 600F.

James Sargant, a Master of Science in Computer Science candidate, will defend the thesis “Evolving Weighted Networks to Simulate Epidemics and Lockdowns” on Thursday, Oct. 5 at 9:30 a.m. in PLZ 600F.

Master of Science in Biological Sciences thesis defence

Alexandra Gunn, a Master of Science in Biological Sciences candidate, will defend the thesis “Investigating Vitis sp. cold tolerance with abscisic acid (ABA) analogs” on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 9:30 a.m. in virtual format.

Master of​Sustainability thesis defence 

Dana Harris, a Master of ​Sustainability candidate, will defend the thesis “Characterizing Intra-annual xylem cell formation and circadian cycle dynamics of jack pine (Pinus Banksiana) in the Northern Boreal Forest, Yellowknife, Northwest Territories” on Thursday, Oct. 5 from 10 a.m. to noon in virtual format.

Master of Arts in Applied Health Sciences (Sport Management) thesis defence

Logan Graves, a Master of ​Arts in Applied Health Sciences candidate, will defend the thesis “My Career in the Rear-view Mirror: Understanding the Decisions NHL Players Make for Post Playing-Careers” on Thursday, Oct. 5, from noon to 3 p.m. in STH 361.

Joint PhD in Educational Studies thesis defence

Kelly Shaw, a Joint PhD in Educational Studies candidate, will defend the thesis “Tukisiven: Nunatsiavummiut Share Their Experience of Participating in a Nova Scotia Community College Child and Youth Care Diploma” on Thursday, Oct. 5 from 1 to 4 p.m. in PLZ 600F.

Master of Science in Applied Health Sciences (Health Sciences) thesis defence

Ben Mousavi, a Master of Science in Applied Health Sciences candidate, will defend the thesis “The Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on the Mental Health of Young Adults Who Experience Childhood Adversity” on Friday, Oct. 6 from 9 a.m. to noon in WC 204.

Master of Science in Applied Health Sciences (Kinesiology) thesis defence

Kaitlyn Colonna, a Master of Science in Applied Health Sciences candidate, will defend the thesis “The effects of creatine, lithium, and co-supplementation on creatine uptake in muscle from male and female rats” on Friday, Oct. 6 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in MCD 350L.
