Greg Beaudry, Manager of Audio Visual Services at Brock University, works on equipment racks in a Plaza Building classroom as part of a campus-wide audio-visual refresh project.When classes start next week, Brock faculty and students will benefit from upgraded audio-visual (AV) technology in classrooms across the University’s main campus.
The upgrades include new displays, projectors, microphones, speakers, touch panels and cameras. Refreshed rooms will also feature AirMedia, a wireless presentation technology. Compatible with Apple, Android and Microsoft systems, AirMedia is used to share content from laptops and mobile devices to room displays.
“Learning is at its best when inspiration can be shared the moment it happens. AirMedia enables instructors and students to present from wherever they are in the room so that ideas and insights can be brough into the conversation in the moment,” says Matt Clare, Director of Technology Enabled Learning. “By supporting this kind of real-time interaction, we’re increasing engagement.”

Refreshed spaces include rooms 212 and 164 in the 573 Glenridge Ave building; Plaza Building rooms 308, 309, 310, 311, 408, 409, 410 and 411; Robert S. K. Welch Hall rooms 207, 208, 209 and 324; and Thistle Complex rooms 240, 241, 243, 244, 245, 246, 248 and 254. The Davis S. Howes Theatre and Sean O’Sullivan Theatre will be upgraded in early September.
Quick-reference guides will be available in each room to help users make the most of the new technology. A training session will also take place early this month with details available shortly on ExperienceBU.
The AV refresh project is part of the University’s broader strategy to modernize learning spaces to respond to technology and learning needs of today and into the future. The Brock University Board of Trustees approved the $1 million in funding from Brock’s capital budget in December 2025.
“This significant investment reflects Brock’s commitment to creating modern, accessible learning spaces,” says Vice-President, Administration and Services Scott Johnstone. “These improvements are fundamental to delivering flexible and consistent teaching environments while creating engaging learning experiences that help students connect, collaborate and succeed.”
While some changes are immediately visible, others happen behind the scenes. Updates to network infrastructure, cabling, control systems and power management are helping to improve reliability and performance.
“This project was also designed with the future in mind,” says Associate Vice-President, Information Technology Services Anthony Betts. “These updates create reliable learning spaces that can evolve alongside teaching practices, emerging technology and student needs.”
And, with environmental sustainability in mind, existing cabling will be repurposed where possible.
“Whether connecting to a laptop, using a wireless microphone or presenting, the goal of the initiative is a streamlined and quality experience for everyone who utilizes these refreshed spaces,” says Manager, Audio Visual Services Greg Beaudry.
Instructors can also look forward to new and refreshed computers in rooms across campus.
Brock community members who need help from the AV team can:
- Call 905-688-5550 x3588 for urgent assistance with in-room AV technology.
- Submit a ticket for non-urgent issues or to request a repair.
- Use the new AV Equipment Request Form to ask for AV support or additional equipment for classes, events and presentations.
