Badger business makes Homecoming a little sweeter

With a dash of nostalgia and a sprinkle of school spirit, Beechwood Doughnuts has perfected the recipe for a sweet treat Brock grads can enjoy on their walk down memory lane.

The local culinary landmark has partnered with Brock University Alumni Relations to add a Brock Homecoming sprinkle doughnut to its menu for September.

Beechwood Doughnuts co-owner Tayler Book (BA ’14), herself a Brock graduate, answered the call from the University to bring a taste of home to this year’s Homecoming celebration.

Book has built a reputation for her entrepreneurial prowess and was honoured by the University with the 2018 Faculty of Social Sciences Distinguished Graduate Award in recognition of her exceptional business achievements and community impact.

Beechwood Doughnuts has launched a Brock Homecoming doughnut for September.

“We were thrilled to have Tayler come on board with this new Homecoming partnership,” says Christine Richard, Interim Manager, Alumni Programming. “It’s a great example of what’s possible when Badgers remain connected to their alma mater.”

The red and white sprinkled doughnut celebrates the beginning of term and the University’s upcoming Homecoming, which see hundreds of graduates return to Brock’s main campus annually for in-person events and virtual programming.

Richard says Homecoming is about more than creating an exciting lineup of events each year. The rich alumni tradition is deeply rooted in creating meaningful opportunities for graduates to connect with the University, each other and the Niagara community in different ways. Every year, alumni are involved in Homecoming programming as webinar subject experts, event hosts and volunteers.

Beechwood Doughnuts is one of many alumni-owned establishments participating in this year’s Homecoming celebration. More than 50 Brock alumni, student, faculty and staff vendors will gather in the downtown Market Square in St. Catharines on Sunday, Sept. 24 for the inaugural Badger Bazaar. Held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the free one-day market is open to the public and will feature artisans, entrepreneurs, professional face painting, live music, food trucks and more.

Members of the Brock and Niagara community can purchase Beechwood Brock Homecoming doughnuts in store or pre-order online.

Tickets for Brock’s Homecoming celebration, which takes place over two weekends from Sept. 16 to Sept. 24, are available at brocku.ca/homecoming
