The Brock women’s volleyball team won its second consecutive Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Championship, the Quigley Cup, at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Saturday, March 11.The Brock Badgers are returning to nationals.
The Brock women’s volleyball team completed a thrilling 3-2 (24-26, 16-25, 25-23, 27-25, 15-13) comeback victory over Queen’s University to capture its second consecutive Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Championship, the Quigley Cup, in front of a sold-out crowd at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Saturday, March 11.
“It is amazing to win for a second year in a row, even getting to the game for a third year in a row is hard, but we were able to get it done,” said Brock head coach and OUA Coach of the Year Steve Delaney. “Queen’s came out flying, but I think the home crowd helped us and we were able to keep believing. It made the difference.”
The Badgers will now compete against the top teams in Canada at the U SPORTS Women’s Volleyball Championships in Vancouver, B.C., from Friday, March 17 to Sunday, March 19. Brock has qualified for U SPORTS for three consecutive seasons. Last year, the University placed sixth overall at the championships in Calgary, Alta.
On Tuesday, March 14, Brock Sports is inviting the University community for a ‘wish the team well’ event prior to their departure. The send-off will take place in the Q Lot parking space at the rear of the Walker Sports Complex at 12:15 p.m.
Brock received the No. 2 seed for the upcoming national tournament and will open the quarter-finals against the host school, the University of British Columbia, on Friday, March 17 at 9 p.m. EST.
All games from the eight-team competition will be webcast live on CBC Sports digital platforms and USPORTS.ca
The following game times are in EST: consolation games will take place Saturday, March 18 at 3 and 6 p.m., with the semifinals set for 9 and 11 p.m. On Sunday, March 19, the fifth-place game is set for 3 p.m., with the bronze-medal game following at 5 p.m. and the championship game at 7:30 p.m.
