Brock women’s basketball team rallying fans in support of cancer research

The Brock women’s basketball team is lacing up for an important cause this month.

The Badgers are participating in the 16th annual Shoot for the Cure to help raise money supporting the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS).

Brock will host its Shoot for the Cure home game against the York Lions at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 6 p.m. Fans in attendance will have an opportunity to scan a QR code and donate towards the team’s fundraising goals.

Donations can also be made online via the Brock Badgers’ Canadian Cancer Society fundraising website.

“We are proud to be directly involved with an important cause that affects so many people worldwide,” said assistant coach Allie Columbus. “Every single dollar makes a difference in this fantastic initiative that aims to educate individuals about cancer, early detection and ultimately finding a cure.”

In conjunction with other U SPORTS women’s basketball programs across the country, the Badgers are raising funds to help reach the total campaign fundraising goal of $100,000 through virtual and in-person events from Jan. 18 to 29.

Last season’s event raised more than $156,000 for the CCS. Overall, Shoot for the Cure has raised more than $1.75 million in donations since 2007.
