Brock University’s Faculty of Education is launching a full-time online cohort of the Master of Education (MEd) program that will run for the 2023-24 academic year and focus on adult and post-secondary education.
The new cohort offers an opportunity for those pursuing careers in adult or post-secondary education settings to enhance their credentials with a graduate degree no matter where they are in the world, with courses offered synchronously online and primarily in the evenings.
“Offering synchronous courses means students will be engaging with faculty members and classmates in real-time,” said Michael Savage, Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Studies and MEd Program Director. “This allows them to engage in deep discussions with instructors and peers while building networks with other educational professionals like they would in face-to-face classes.”
The program will take approximately one year to complete and was developed based on interest from potential students and lessons learned during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“After two years of offering courses online due to the global pandemic, we have reached a place where we can proficiently offer online courses with no difference in quality or learning outcomes from our usual face-to-face courses,” said Savage. “As the pandemic has progressed, we have increasingly heard from current and prospective students, particularly those who were working in the field of education outside of the formal K to 12 education sector, that it has become more difficult to attend classes in-person.”
While the adult and post-secondary education cohort is only planned to run for one year, there is potential to extend the cohort and offer an online option for other MEd students in the future.
