Free professional headshots available through new Brock photo booth

A new self-service photo booth at Brock University is now offering students and employees free professional-quality headshots.

Recently brought to campus by the Co-op, Career and Experiential Education (CCEE) office, the BrockU Headshot Booth is part of CCEE’s continuing efforts to provide innovative experiences and opportunities that support the career readiness of Brock’s student population and community.

CCEE Director Cara Krezek says the booth — an Iris Air — will help Brock students showcase their LinkedIn profile, which is becoming increasingly important in developing a personal brand.

“According to LinkedIn, having a professional photo on your profile will receive 21 times more profile views and nine times more connection requests,” she says. “The world of work is evolving quickly, and we need to prepare students to keep up with this rapidly changing environment.”

A white photo backdrop stands against a red wall. In front of the backdrop is a white stool that faces a tall digital screen with the words ‘iris’ written on it.

The new BrockU Headshot Booth is housed in CareerZone, which can be accessed from Market Hall.

Krezek says the booth also removes financial barriers to getting professional photos done, which can be costly and time consuming.

“It levels the playing field by making studio-quality headshots available to everyone at the click of a button,” she says.

Beyond LinkedIn and other social media accounts, the headshots can also be used when attending conferences or other professional events and displayed on professional or personal websites.

Brock University is the only post-secondary institution in Canada with the Iris Air, which features studio-grade lighting, professional camera equipment, powerful editing tools and custom filters that help create a high-quality portrait.

Each session takes about five minutes and offers a touchless experience using one’s smart phone as a remote. Images can be edited immediately during the session or any time through an Iris account.

Located in CareerZone, which can be accessed from Market Hall, the photo booth is currently available to use Monday to Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m.

However, during Convocation Week from Monday, June 13 to Friday, June 17, a CCEE representative will be available to assist graduates with the booth from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

CareerZone will be closed Monday, Aug. 8 to Friday, Aug 19 during the Canada Summer Games.
