Employee events moving from Focus on Learning to ExperienceBU

Brock University staff, faculty and librarians interested in professional development seminars, health and wellness lunch and learns, finance workshops and more, will find them in a new section of ExperienceBU.

For the past several years, many of Brock’s departments have listed events for employees on the Focus on Learning website. Beginning this month, events will be posted to ExperienceBU, the University’s main event management platform and involvement portal.

“ExperienceBU offers event organizers more flexibility and the independence to post and manage their own events, including tracking RSVPs,” said Christine Richard, Co-Curricular Engagement Co-ordinator with Student Life and Success, who manages the ExperienceBU platform. “It allows for greater communication and connection between the host department and participant.”

While each University department will have its own organization page in ExperienceBU to manage its events, a new Faculty and Staff Events organization page will list all events available to Brock employees.

Employees are invited to join the page to receive occasional emails from the organization about upcoming events and to bookmark the page to check back regularly for new events.

“Moving to ExperienceBU consolidates Brock’s many learning opportunities offered across the institution and showcases everything employees have access to in one comprehensive listing,” said Cathy Whitehead, Learning and Organizational Development Specialist with Human Resources.

To help create a master list of employee events on ExperienceBU, Brock departments are asked to add the Faculty and Staff Events organization as a co-host to events open to employees.

Event organizers can further target their events by selecting several categories. ‘Health and wellness,’ ‘social’ or ‘workshops and skill development,’ for example, are categories that help describe the type or theme of the event. Newer categories ‘faculty/staff welcome’ and ‘faculty/staff only’ distinguish the intended audience or participant group. ‘Faculty/staff welcome’ includes events open to the entire Brock community, while ‘faculty/staff only’ includes events only available for employees to attend.

Many employee-focused events will be listed privately on ExperienceBU, which means staff, faculty and librarians will need to sign in to ExperienceBU using their campus username and password to access events.

To learn how to log in to ExperienceBU, change notification settings and post or search for events, visit the frequently asked questions section on the ExperienceBU information page.
