Online event to highlight Brock faculty, student research services

An upcoming webinar aimed at new or junior Brock faculty and student researchers will outline research-related services offered by several departments across campus.

New Faculty Orientation: Research Services at Brock University will take place online Tuesday, Nov. 23 from noon to 1 p.m. via Microsoft Teams.

The free information session is part of the Building Better Research professional development workshop series offered jointly by the Brock University Library and the Office of Research Services (ORS).

Presenters at the Nov. 23 session will include representatives from ORS, the Centre for Pedagogical Innovation (CPI), Human Resources (HR) and the Brock University Library.

Bradley McLean, Acting Director, Research Services, will offer an overview of ORS, its services and team members, as well as external and internal funding opportunities. Research Officer Sharlee Cranston-Reimer will discuss grant applications and processes.

Giulia Forsythe, Associate Director, CPI, will discuss how CPI can support open practices through scholarship and engagement to support the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning; how CPI can support opportunities for researchers to expand their scholarly pedagogical practice through the Chancellor’s Chair for Teaching Excellence and eCampusOntario’s Virtual Learning Strategy.

Cathy Baillie, Learning and Organizational Development Specialist, will review Brock’s mentorship and leadership professional development programs, as well as online opportunities and communities that may be of interest to researchers.

Nicole Nolan, Associate University Librarian, will highlight key Library areas and services beneficial to researchers, including Archives and Special Collections; the Digital Scholarship Lab; geographical information systems and data services; how to search library collections using Omni and databases; Open Access support, including the repository, the Library Open Access Publishing Fund and Open Access memberships; systematic review support; research help; and course support.

Interested faculty and student researchers can register for the session via ExperienceBU.

Those unable to attend the live session can watch a video recording that will be posted online shortly after the session. The 2020-21 Building Better Research series of 18 workshops is also available on the Research Enterprise SharePoint site.

All Building Better Research sessions are listed on the Building Better Research web page.
