Thesis defences — Aug. 24 to 28

The following is a list of thesis defences taking place virtually from Monday, Aug. 24 to Friday, Aug. 28.

PhD in Psychology thesis defence

Sean Robb, a PhD candidate in the Department of Psychology, will defend his thesis titled “Distinct forms of depression and somatization following head injury: A neuropsychological framework and exploratory treatment paradigm for somatic symptoms and executive dysfunction following mild head injury” on Tuesday, Aug. 25 at 10 a.m. via video conference.

The examination committee members are Dawn Good, Supervisor; Tim Murphy, Stefan Brudzynski, and Edgardo Perez, Advisory Committee;  Sidney Kennedy, External Examiner (University of Toronto); Sheila Bennett, Internal Examiner and Brian Roy, Chair.

Master of Psychology thesis defence
Nivetha Prabaharan, a Master of Psychology (Lifespan Development stream) candidate, will defend the thesis “Victimization by Bullying and Non-Bullying Aggression: An Evolutionary Psychological Perspective” on Wednesday, Aug. 26 at 1 p.m. via video conference.

The examination committee includes Dawn Zinga, Chair; Drew Dane, Supervisor; Heather Chalmers, External Examiner (Associate Professor, Child and Youth Studies, Brock University); Stephen Emrich, Graduate Program Director; Anthony Volk, Committee Member and Angela Book, Committee Member.

Master of Science thesis defence

Yongya Li, a Master of Science candidate in the Department of Chemistry, will defend her thesis titled “Development of Universal Biosensing Platforms Based on CRISPR/Cas12a systems” on Tuesday, Aug. 25 at 1 p.m. via video conference.

The examination committee includes Cheryl McCormick, Chair; Feng Li, Supervisor; Keith Pardee, External Examiner (University of Toronto); and Melanie Pilkington and Travis Dudding, Committee Members.

PhD in Applied Health Sciences thesis defence

Esther Sampaio Santos, a PhD candidate in Applied Health Sciences, will defend her thesis titled “Can exergaming improve mental health of university students?” on Friday, August 28 at 9:45 a.m. via video conference.

The examination committee members are Philip Wilson, Supervisor; Shannon Kerwin, Diane Mack, and Jae Patterson, Advisory Committee;  Melanie Gregg, External Examiner (University of Winnipeg); Tony DiPetta, Internal Examiner; and Wendy Ward, Chair.
