Election for ongoing staff representative to the Board of Trustees

Brock University’s Board of Trustees is seeking one new ongoing staff representative to serve a three-year term on the Board.

About the Board and participation

Brock’s Board of Trustees is one of the two governing bodies of the University (along with the Senate) and is responsible for the government, conduct, management and control of the University and of its property, revenues, expenditures, business and affairs. As a member of the Board, you will actively engage and participate in discussions and decision-making that affect the University. In addition, each staff member is appointed to a Board Committee. Time and commitment are required in preparing for and actively attending the Board and Committee meetings, normally held five times per year (September to June).

Why a staff representative is needed

The General Bylaws of the Board of Trustees specify that the Board shall include two ongoing staff members, elected by the ongoing staff of the University, serving staggered three-year terms. As of July 1, 2020, there will be one ongoing staff vacancy on the Board.

How a representative will be elected

The University Secretariat will hold elections in May to select one representative from the ongoing staff for a three-year term commencing July 1, 2020.

Nominations of candidates

All ongoing staff of the University are eligible to serve, except ongoing staff who report directly to the President or to a Vice-President.  Nomination forms are available on the University Secretariat election website.

Individuals may nominate themselves or may nominate another individual providing the candidate has clearly agreed to accept the nomination. All nominations must be submitted to universitysecretary@brocku.ca by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 1.

Voting

The election will be done by electronic voting. Voting will begin at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 13 and will close at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 27. All eligible voters will receive an email to their Brock email account with a link to a secure electronic ballot. Each voter may vote for one candidate as there is only one vacancy. The candidate leading the poll will be declared elected to the three-year term.

Please contact Chabriol Colebatch, Secretary to the University, if you have any questions.
