Brock University remains committed to reaching a new collective agreement with CUPE 4207-1, which represents contract instructors, teaching assistants, course co-ordinators, marker-graders and lab demonstrators.
In an effort to reach an agreement, negotiators from the University and CUPE 4207-1 have met more than 20 times since August, including two times with the assistance of a conciliation officer appointed by the Ministry of Labour. Following the meeting on Thursday, Feb. 20, the union requested a ‘no-board’ report, which was issued by the Ministry on Monday, March 2. The parties now have until 12:01 a.m. on Thursday, March 19 to reach a new agreement before they are in a legal strike or lockout position.
Further talks are scheduled for March 17 and 18, though University officials have indicated they are available to resume negotiations prior to those dates.
In the meantime, business continuity planning is underway should the two sides fail to reach an agreement.
Brock is committed to reaching an agreement that reflects the important work members of the bargaining unit perform, while respecting the current financial and fiscal realities facing the University and broader public sector in Ontario.
Updates about collective bargaining at the University are available on the Labour Relations at Brock website.
