The Zone fitness centre expansion is making major progress, but for now, there are some new closures to be aware of.
Starting Monday, Feb. 24, the hallway on the 200 level of the Walker Sports Complex (in front of the Welcome Desk), including the stairwell that leads down to the 100 level near the Central Equipment Room (aka the cage), will be closed.
Similar to the closures from last fall, there will be signage to direct pedestrian traffic to the various detours.
The closure will span from the Walker Sports Complex Welcome Desk past the stairwell and around the corner to the ramp leading to the Ian Beddis Gymnasium near the complex’s 200 level elevator.
Pedestrians entering from the south side of the Walker Sports Complex, near Hungry Badger, will be directed to take the ramp or elevator to the lower 100 level near the Ian Beddis Gymnasium.
Coming from Scotiabank Hall, visitors will encounter detours that lead to the elevator near the Walker Sports Complex Welcome Desk or through the Kinesiology Department hallways, down the north stairwell leading outside and back inside near the Leo LeBlanc Rowing Centre. The Welcome Desk, studios and offices will also be accessible through the hallways.
Another option from Scotiabank Hall is to detour south outside towards the entrance of Robert S.K. Welch Hall. Pedestrians can take the inside stairs up into the building and head north into South Block near the General Brock Store. People with accessibility needs should enter Welch Hall and then immediately exit outside to head west toward a South Block entrance. From there, all visitors can proceed toward the Walker Sports Complex to use the ramp or elevator to go down to the 100 level.
The closure will last until completion of the Zone expansion, which is estimated to be August 2020.
