Goodman researcher to highlight impact of news on exchange markets

When financial news breaks, it can cause major jumps in foreign exchange markets.

Brock researcher Walid Ben Omrane and his team looked at a 10-year period to see how macroeconomic news and public communications by senior officials in the United States and Europe impacted currency jumps.

Ben Omrane, Associate Professor of Finance at the Goodman School of Business, will highlight this work at the Goodman Luncheon Speaker Series this week. He will present his co-authored paper “Macroeconomic News, Public Communications, and Foreign Exchange Jumps around US and European Financial Crises” on Friday, Feb. 15.

The presentation will run from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in Goodman School of Business Room 205.

Ben Omrane is the recipient of the 2018 Goodman Department Researcher of the Year Award for the Finance, Operations and Information Systems, based on his recent research and contribution.

The speaker series provides an informal opportunity to listen to and discuss recent advances in research, teaching and practices with business colleagues. Goodman faculty, staff and graduate students are invited to attend.

Brock community members interested in attending the talk can email Jennifer Brisson at jbrisson@brocku.ca to reserve a seat.
