Brock seeking input on student information systems

Brock is replacing its student information system (SIS) and is looking for input from faculty, staff and students.

As part of Brock’s SIS Modernization Project, vendors will be on campus demonstrating their solutions to interested faculty, staff and students. Last month, Workday featured their student information system Workday Student. On Thursday, March 22, Ellucian will present their product, Banner.

Rico Natale, Student Information Services — User Experience Lead, says it’s crucial the current SIS is replaced and not simply preserved.

“Brock’s current SIS has served the University for many years,” he says. “But continuing to maintain the system will cost significantly more money and staff time to improve functionality, stability and security than it will to replace it with a modern product.”

Natale says the success of this modernization is dependent on stakeholder feedback.

“It’s essential we listen to people who use the software — faculty, staff and students,” he says. “We want to understand their experiences and challenges with the current system.

“By reviewing new system options, end users can help ensure that new product options offer solutions to existing challenges and satisfy future process needs.”

Faculty, staff and students interested in providing input on SIS options are encouraged to register for all or part of a daylong product demonstration of Banner by SIS vendor, Ellucian, via Focus on Learning.

Questions regarding the new SIS may be emailed to Rico Natale at rnatale@brocku.ca
