The Triggs International Premium Vinifera Lecture Series marked its 10th instalment this year, celebrating the milestone by giving guided technical tours at four vineyards in the Niagara-on-the-Lake area on Thursday, Aug. 3.
Close to 100 grape growers and winemakers attended the interactive sessions to hear international speaker Stefano Poni, Professor of Viticulture and Chair of the Instituto of Frutti-Viticoltura of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore of Piacenza, Italy, discuss the importance of canopy management in premium vinifera grape production.
Organized by Brock’s Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute (CCOVI), the event hosts international experts who provide grape growers, industry stakeholders, researchers and students with access to the most current developments in the field of viticulture.
The Ontario arm of the series concluded with a public lecture at Brock University’s Pond Inlet on Friday, Aug. 4. The series is a national affair, continuing Aug. 8 and Aug. 9 at participating vineyards in the Okanagan Valley, B.C.
