MVP rugby player crosses the Convocation stage

Brock Badgers men’s rugby player Jeremy Brownridge excelled in the field and in the classroom all five years at Brock University.

On Tuesday, he walked across the stage at the 2017 Brock University Spring Convocation ceremony and received his second degree at Brock, this time in Education.

“Brock has been a home away from home with a small town feeling because of being surrounded by great coaches, teammates and school atmosphere,” said Brownridge, who is from Sunderland.

On the rugby pitch, the two-time team captain helped lead the Badgers to a .500 regular season record during his playing career, which was highlighted by an OUA bronze medal finish in 2014 when the Badgers knocked off divisional rival McMaster Marauders in front of a capacity crowd at home.

“From training, to various games to social school events, it has been a pleasure to wear the Badger on my chest knowing that there is a whole community backing me,” said Brownridge.

He was recognized as an OUA All-Star in both 2015 and 2016. He was also named the Brock men’s rugby MVP in 2015.

In the classroom, Brownridge was a five-time OUA All-Academic graduating with an honours degree in Education.

To end his university career, Brownridge was recognized at the 2017 Brock Sports Annual Awards Dinner where he took home three major awards.

Brownridge received the R.M. Davis Surgite Award which is awarded to the student-athlete that has excelled in the classroom throughout their university careers. This past year he held a 91 per cent average in his academic studies.

He also received the Dallas Beaton Award for her dedication towards academics, athletics and the community and was the recipient of the David S. Howes Spirit of Brock Athletics Award, which is presented to students who best embody the spirit of Sir Isaac Brock: leadership, courage, innovation, inspiration and community service.
