Bench being dedicated to Marilyn Rose

The Brock University community is invited to celebrate the life of the late professor and former dean Marilyn Rose.

To honour Marilyn Rose for all her contributions, her vision and her collegiality during her more than 35 years at Brock, a bench dedication is being held Thursday, April 7 at 12:45 p.m.

People will gather at her bench, located on the pathway between MacKenzie Chown and Cairns Complex.

Following the bench dedication, the Faculty of Graduate Studies will present the 2016 Marilyn Rose Graduate Leadership Award at 1 p.m. in the fourth floor mezzanine in Plaza Building.

Rose’s biggest legacy to Brock was overseeing the creation of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, serving as its first Dean from 2004-2011 and growing its academic portfolio to 41 graduate programs. She passed away on July 22, 2015.

Mike Plyley, current Dean of Graduate Studies and Rose’s successor in that role, said her contributions to Brock and her students were immense.

“We remember Marilyn with so much fondness and respect. She made Brock a better place, and she was selfless as a leader in so many ways. She brought forward a vision that continues to shape the development of Graduate Studies.”
