Blueprint program invites entrepreneurial students, alumni

Aspiring or established entrepreneurs have two weeks to submit their applications to Blueprint, a University-wide business competition that supports and rewards entrepreneurship and innovation.

Blueprint is hosted by BioLinc, Brock University’s incubation facility run by the Goodman School of Business. Blueprint finalists will have the chance to compete for up to $10,000 in funding in front of a public audience in March. Beyond that, finalists are also provided with expert business advice and mentorship to help them grow their business, research and social ventures.

Great ideas come from every discipline, and the Blueprint competition is open to current students from all Brock Faculties, as well as recent graduates (fewer than two years since graduation). Team applications are also welcome – at least half of the members must be Brock University students or recent graduates.

Last year’s finalists included a diverse group of entrepreneurs: SmartPay, a platform for international currency exchange; Tribute Tree, an SaaS platform to connect funeral services and clients; Handy Hand, an E-platform for connecting reliable renovation contractors; Sparta CRM, a mobile application for customized relationship management; and MedScan, a low-cost scanning service to bridge the market gap.

Brock graduate Benjamin Haggith (BBA ’14) from Sparta CRM and MBA student Shawn Quait from Tribute Tree won the final pitch competition, each winning $5,000 to help their respective businesses grow.

Blueprint applications close on Jan. 22. Students or graduates selected for the second round will be notified by email. More information is available on the BioLinc website.
