The job search has been compared to a marathon – and for good reason.

It takes stamina, preparation, good coaching and a strong understanding of your strengths and weaknesses to prepare for a process that can often feel as daunting as running 42 kilometres.

At Career Boot Camp, a two-day intensive conference on April 23 and 24, Goodman School of Business undergraduate and graduate students will be able to train for their job search by developing their skills in networking, business etiquette and branding.

“There are so many resources available online to help you write your resume and cover letter,” says Marisa Brown, session organizer and senior career consultant for Goodman’s Career Development Office. “The Goodman Career Boot Camp focuses on things you can’t get online, such as how to develop your personal sales pitch or a face-to-face networking experience. Students will experience hands-on activities and receive personal advice from career professionals to advance their job search efforts.”

And while job search guidance will be included as part of the workshops, the main attraction will be the opportunity to connect with industry experts and professionals.

The keynote speakers will be Jason John, Sr. relationship manager, Talent Solutions – LinkedIn, and international motivational speaker Sunjay Nath. Industry experts from Hydro One, Magpie Media, Trigger Strategies, TD Securities, and more will be on hand to give students an inside perspective about the recruitment process and industry trends.

The event is sponsored by CPA Ontario.

Registration is open on CareerZone until April 20, 2015.
