Prof. John Hay, from the Department of Health Sciences, will be delivering the Chancellor’s Chair for Research Excellence Award lecture March 31.
Hay’s lecture, titled “Measuring physical activity: more than just child’s play,” will profile the research conducted when he held the chair from 2007 to 2010.
Hay has been involved in a wide variety of research projects with two common roles.
The first is to try and understand why some children choose to be active and why others do not.
The other is to understand the role that physical activity plays in the health of children with significant medical challenges such as cystic fibrosis, leukemia, renal disease, juvenile arthritis, and Crohn’s disease.
To develop that understanding, physical activity must be measured.
The talk will be a discussion of the issues and challenges in measuring physical activity in clinical populations.
The lecture will be held in Sankey Chambers from noon to 1:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
A light lunch will be served.
Please RSVP for lunch by email or x5332.
