Robb, who recently graduated with her PhD in Biological Sciences, has accepted a post-doctoral research position at the University of Cambridge in Cambridge, England.
Beginning in September, Robb will join a research group that is part of a mitochondrial-biology unit within the Medical Research Council of the United Kingdom at Cambridge.
It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Robb, who has established an impressive research career as a Brock graduate student. She studies the health benefits of resveratrol, an active ingredient found in red wine. Resveratrol has been shown to have beneficial effects in cancer prevention and in maintaining cardiovascular health.
“This opportunity will allow me to work with another strong researcher in mitochondrial biology, and to continue to build on the skill set I acquired while working with Dr. Jeff Stuart here at Brock,” Robb says. “Personally, this is a very exciting move for my husband and I. We’re very much looking forward to the international experience and adventure.”
Robb was Brock’s first recipient of a prestigious Vanier Scholarship. The award placed her among Canada’s best and brightest doctoral students and provided funding to support her work up to the recent completion of her PhD.
She is also a former president of Brock’s Graduate Students’ Association (GSA). Under her leadership, the GSA advanced its administrative processes and its work in supporting the needs of the 1,600 graduate students currently at Brock.
Robb was one of six graduate students presented with a Board of Trustees Spirit of Brock medal at convocation ceremonies held June 11 to 15. The medal is awarded to students who best exemplify the spirit of Sir Isaac Brock.
