Spring Convocation at Brock this week

More than 3,300 students will graduate this week at Brock’s 2012 Spring Convocation, which takes place over seven ceremonies from Tuesday, June 5, to Saturday, June 9.

All ceremonies will be held in the Walker Complex in the Ian D. Beddis gymnasium. An outdoor reception for graduates, family members and guests will be held after each ceremony. Tickets are not required. All guests are welcome.

The seven ceremonies will proceed as follows:

Tuesday, June 5, 10 a.m. – Faculty of Humanities; Faculty of Mathematics and Science

• An honorary degree will be presented to Colin Chilvers, Special Effects Director. Brock is recognizing Chilvers for his exceptional achievements and pioneering work in special and visual effects for the motion picture industry. He will also deliver the Convocation address.
Professor Kevin Kee, Department of History and Centre for Digital Humanities, Faculty of Humanities, will be presented with the 2012 Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching
Professor Greg Finn, Department of Earth Sciences, Faculty of Mathematics and Science, will be presented with the 2012 Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching
Humanities Board of Trustees Spirit of Brock medals winners: Josie Kielstra (undergraduate) and Carolyn Mullin (graduate)
Humanities Dean’s Medals: Hilary Leigh McLean, Classics, and Eric Michaud, French Studies
Mathematics and Science Board of Trustees Spirit of Brock medals winners: Meagan Dumont (undergraduate) and Nicholas Vesprini (graduate)
Mathematics and Science Dean’s Medals: Jesse Larone, Mathematics Integrated with Computing and Applications, and David Clark
Andrew Skelton, an MSc student in mathematics and statistics, will be presented with the Governor General’s Gold Medal, awarded to the student who achieves the highest academic standing at the graduate level

Wednesday, June 6, 10 a.m. – Faculty of Education (Hamilton Campus)

Professor Kevin Kee, Department of History and Centre for Digital Humanities, Faculty of Humanities, and recipient of a 2012 Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching, will address Convocation
Education Dean’s Medal: Richelle Capriotti, Pre-Service Education

Wednesday, June 6, 2 p.m. – Faculty of Education (St. Catharines Campus)

Professor Darlene Ciuffetelli Parker, Department of Teacher Education, Faculty of Education, will be presented with the 2012 Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching, and will address Convocation
Education Board of Trustees Spirit of Brock medal winners: Stephanie Bowes (undergraduate), Christine Gigler (graduate)

Thursday, June 7, 10 a.m. – Faculty of Social Sciences

• An honorary degree will be presented to Edward L. Greenspan, Senior Partner, Greenspan Partners Barristers. Brock is recognizing Greenspan for his exemplary public contributions to society and his outstanding achievements as an accomplished lawyer, academic and humanitarian. He will also deliver the Convocation address.
Professor Robert Dimand, Department of Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences, will be presented with the 2012 Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching
Social Sciences Board of Trustees Spirit of Brock medal winner: Daryna Marei (graduate)

Thursday, June 7, 2 p.m. – Faculty of Social Sciences

June Corman, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies for the Faculty of Social Sciences will deliver the Convocation address

Friday, June 8, 10 a.m. – Faculty of Applied Health Sciences

Professor Erin Sharpe, Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies, Faculty of Applied Health Sciences, will be presented with the 2012 Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching, and she will also address Convocation
Applied Health Sciences Board of Trustees Spirit of Brock medals winners: Dru Bernardo (undergraduate) and Val Andrew Fajardo (graduate)
Applied Health Sciences Dean’s Medals: Martin Zaback, Kinesiology, and Erin Kelly Duval, Community Health Sciences

Saturday, June 9, 10 a.m. – Faculty of Business

Michael J. Armstrong, Department of Finance, Operations and Information Systems, Faculty of Business, will be presented with the 2012 Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching. He will also address convocation.
Business Board of Trustees Spirit of Brock medals winners: Nick Chrzan (undergraduate) and Najlaa Rauf (graduate)
Business Dean’s Medal: Andrew Manuel Medeiros, Accounting and Finance

    Thank you for all Brock has done for me! Part of my journey to the promised land and my voluntarist personality with Canadian Red Cross now shows my continued evolution of my convocation of life.
