Brock is welcoming nearly 4,000 first-year students this year, all of whom are invited to O-Week events planned by the Brock University Students’ Union. The schedule ranges from the Rock the Red Tower Party on Monday to the Residence Summer Games on Sunday, Sept. 11.

“It’s going great,” said Luke Speers, BUSU’s Vice-President University Affairs. “The weather’s kind of been co-operating, but it could have been worse. Everyone’s excited.”

Wednesday afternoon marked the end of a two-day Vendor Fair in front of the Schmon Tower, where campus and community organizations distributed information. Vendors ranged from the Brock Anime Club to large businesses such as Shoppers Drug Mart.

This week’s concerts are Avicii at 6 p.m. tonight at Weatherstation Field and The Trews and Classified on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 5 p.m. at Weatherstation Field.

Students will also take part in a Shinerama fundraiser known as Shine Day on Saturday, Sept. 10. They will shine shoes and cars and host barbecues at more than 20 sites across Niagara. The annual fundraiser benefits cystic fibrosis research.

In general, students are spending O-Week doing what they’re supposed to do, which is having fun, making friends and getting to know Brock, Speers said.

“I hope students who have come here to the University see that Brock is a community,” he said. “It’s nothing like what they encountered in high school. We want them to meet friends, meet neighbours and start identifying themselves as part of the Brock family.”
