Lisa Wilson, left, and Irene Palumbo

Lisa Wilson and Irene Palumbo are assistants in Brock’s Science Stores. The two friends, who maintain a Science Stores pet fish named Alpha, are proud of the stores’ recycling record. The office is one of the biggest recyclers on campus, even starting the recent Tim Horton’s coffee cup recycling challenge. They also reuse packing peanuts, offering free bags to anyone who needs them.

What do you like about your job?

LW: I can sum it up and say everything. What job wouldn’t be fun where you deal with vacuum-packed frogs and chemicals that melt your bones from the inside out? I come from the auto industry, and this was a shocker. I still pinch myself every day that I’m in this great environment.

IP: I like everything about our job. I like my co-worker. We get to interact with a lot of students too, which makes me feel young again.

What do you do for fun?

LW: I bike and hike, mostly in the Niagara gorge.

IP: I have a two-year-old. I don’t really do much for fun. I spend most of my time running around after my two-year-old.

What was the last good book you read?

LW: It’s an oldie but a good read – Another Roadside Attraction by Tom Robbins.

Where did you go on your last vacation?

IP: I went on a cruise last January with my parents and my husband and my daughter. We went to Key West and the Grand Cayman Islands.
