University resumes normal operations after earthquake

Brock University resumed normal operations just before 5 p.m. on Wednesday, although the University library remained closed until Thursday morning because staff had been sent home.

Parts of the University had been evacuated just before 2 p.m. Wednesday after an earth tremor rattled the campus and had the 14-storey Schmon Tower swaying for several seconds.

No damage was detected as a result of the tremor, although officials had the tower inspected as a safety precaution. Several other campus buildings were also reviewed to make sure no damage had occurred.

Brock’s Rodman Hall facility and its Hamilton campus were scheduled to be inspected on Thursday. Reports from each site on Wednesday afternoon indicated no signs of any damage.
