Travel Tuesday: Central Europe

This week our focus turns toward central Europe, including a variety of countries including Germany, Poland, Netherlands and Belgium. A student exchange to any of these options allows for easy transit to many different countries throughout Europe by bus, train or plane. You will face the challenge of being surrounded by an unfamiliar language and a new culture but this will result in tremendous personal growth and development of valuable cross-cultural communication skills.

Germany

Germany is a global economic powerhouse as one of the world leaders in technological innovation and business development. It is the most populous member of the EU and the world’s third largest importer and exporter of goods. Through the DAAD program, Canadian students can seek extra funding to study abroad in Germany.

ESB is renowned for its courses in Operations Management, making it a great destination for those looking to expand their knowledge and experience within this discipline. The University is in Reutlingen, a small city in southwestern Germany that historically dates back to the 5th century.

Munich Business School

U-Multirank 2018 ranked Munich Business School as Germany’s best private university of applied sciences in Business Studies, with top ratings in ‘International Orientation.’ Munich is home to the headquarters of several international brands including BMW and Siemens.

 

 

University of Mannheim

According to the QS World University Ranking, the University of Mannheim is the best German University for Business Administration and Economics. If you have ever wanted to study in a castle, the baroque design of this campus will satisfy your dreams. Its unique campus and reputation have created an international dynamic to the school; one in five students have come to study at the University of Mannheim from abroad.

WHU Otto Beisheim School of Management

WHU has partnerships with over 200 universities around the world and its reputation as a quality business school reaches across the globe. The school is located along the Rhine in the town of Vallendar. Due to the historic and natural setting, this section of the Rhine is a UNESCO world heritage site.

Pforzheim University

Pforzheim is a beautiful city located near the Black Forest in southwestern Germany. It is known as ‘Goldstadt’ because of its fame as the center for German jewelry, watch and silver goods industry. This school offers a unique exchange program plan where students can study at Pforzheim for an academic semester followed by an internship semester at a German business. This is a great option for students looking to gain international work experience, especially if they are not part of the co-op program at Brock.

 

Poland

Kozminski University

Kozminski University is the only Polish University with three major international accreditations from AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA. Studies in management are taught entirely in English, leading to an international dynamic that has resulted in every second student being from outside of Poland. It is located in Poland’s capital Warsaw, a city steeped in rich history and culture.

 

Netherlands

Maastricht University

The Netherlands may be a small country but its industrious people have made an impact on global business. Students can ride their bikes through the cobblestone streets of this cheery student city on their way to the Netherlands’ most international University. Classes focus on creating an international dynamic that intentionally builds off the blend of students who have come to study in Maastricht from abroad, creating a learning environment built on various learning perspectives.

 

Belgium

KU Leuven

KU Leuven is a world class school established in 1424, making it one of the oldest universities in the world. According to Times Higher Education (2018), it ranks 47th worldwide. Leuven is located 25 kilometers from Brussels, a gateway city into the rest of Europe, and only a 1.5-hour train ride from the coast.

Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management

Brussels is the capital of Europe and Belgium and hosts both the NATO and EU headquarters. It is a hub for international business yet manages to maintain a relaxed environment. Paris, London, Amsterdam and Berlin are all within a two-hour train ride from Brussels.
