Turn Distress into De-Stress This Exam Season

Whew, midterm exams are over! Time to relax, binge watch your favourite T.V. show, and slee- Oh wait, finals are just around the corner. We are less than a month away from our final exams and some of us may find this to be a pretty stressful period. To combat our worries, here are a few ways you can have a stress-free exam season:

Attend Brock’s Night Against Procrastination

You can start de-stressing tonight (Thursday, Nov. 16, 2016)! From 6 p.m. to 12 midnight, you can pop in and out of the Guernsey Market and take advantage of the various resources like workstations with professional support, A-Z Learning Service workshops, relaxation sessions, and more.

RSVP here!

Download the I.M. Well App

Your mental health is important, and Brock University knows it. This free app was designed to help Brock and other Ontario university/college students get the mental health resources they need. The app offers a 24-hour live chat so you can get confidential and personal assistance whenever you want.

Exercise

Take out your anger while doing cardio or find your peace while practicing yoga. Brock offers plenty of fitness classes including a De-Stress Stretch class (Tuesdays 4:10-4:50 and Thursdays 12:10-12:50)! Download the Brock Sports app to get the full fitness class schedule.

Treat Yourself

Nothing puts you in a better mood than treating yourself to something you really like. Eat some of your favourite chocolate, buy yourself a little gift, have a long bubble bath, or go out with your friends! Whatever it may be, it will give you the energy and optimism you need to get back to studying.

Colour Away

Adult colouring books have become one of the biggest trends in the book industry, making millions of dollars. Colouring can help reduce stress and anxiety, so take some time to be a kid again and colour within or outside of the lines.

The Eight Hour Rule

This is something I learned from my Brock orientation. Follow the Eight Hour Rule to have a balance of work, play, and sleep. There are 24 hours in a day, divide that by three and you will have eight hours for work, eight hours to relax, and eight hours dedicated for sleep! I know, this is easier said than done. But if this rule seems like a reasonable fit for your lifestyle, try implementing it in your schedule.

In the end, remember that everything is going to be fine! Stressing won’t make you understand your material better or give you more hours in a day. Just take a deep breath and be confident that you will rock your exams. Good luck!
