Five Questions with… ASA VP of Marketing Sean Pereira

Sean Pereira Brock's Luckiest Student

Sean Pereira is the VP of Marketing for the Goodman Accounting Students' Association and recently won Brock's Luckiest Student

Congratulations on winning Brock’s Luckiest Student! Tell us what that day was like and how you felt after winning.

I was so surprised when I found out. I was initially supposed to be meeting Chris Ventura to discuss some marketing strategies for the upcoming Brock University Accounting Conference. When Chris told me that we would be speaking to Chris Green from the BUSU office, I was a little confused but I went along with it.

When I opened the door to the room, I was so shocked and had no idea what was going on for the first few seconds. It was such a great feeling to win but having it be a surprise was much more amazing. I was also really thankful to have all of my friends there to be a part of the surprise. I couldn’t stop smiling throughout the entire day and am really grateful. It was definitely a highlight of my experience at Brock University that I will never forget!

As the VP of Marketing for the Goodman Accounting Students Association, what does your role entail? What duties and responsibilities do you have?

Acting as the VP of Marketing for the Goodman Accounting Students’ Association (ASA) has been such a memorable and amazing experience. Within my role I implemented and maintained our new site (goodmanasa.com), in addition I handle all of the social media outlets for the ASA (@goodmanASA). If you ever see a Tweet, Instagram, or Facebook post from one of our accounts, it is most likely me!

It has been a great opportunity to develop my online skills while staying engaged in my undergrad. The ASA has held many great events that I had the opportunity to attend/promote, some of which include: Learn to Golf, Goodman Consulting Competition, Break the Case etc. My term with the ASA as the VP of Marketing is coming to an end and I have gained so much knowledge from this role as well as created some lasting memories and relationships that I am sure will continue to progress throughout my time at the Goodman School of Business.

In addition, the Goodman Accounting Students’ Association is currently hiring a new president! If you are interested the deadline for applications is January 15, 2015 – apply via CareerZone Job ID: 35422.

You’re also on the committee for the Brock University Accounting Conference (BUAC) that happened recently – how did that go?

Being part of the Brock University Accounting Conference has been by far one of the best decisions I have made in my time as an Undergrad. The executive roles within BUAC are so great because everything is very fast-paced and you become really close with your team in such a short period of time. At the end of my term, attending the conference is a great way to see how all of the BUAC team’s handwork over the past months have paid off.

This year I took on the role of Director of Communications for BUAC 2015. My role was amazing as I got to interact with schools across Canada via social media. If you would like to learn more about the Brock University Accounting Conference check out our website (goodmanBUAC.com)! I am so happy with how the conference ran and I will be taking away some great memories that I will cherish. I would like to wish my team the best of luck in the future and I am so glad I got to work with all of you amazing people! #BUAC2015 #BUACLOVE

Who has been your strongest mentor at the Goodman School of Business?

This question took me some time to come up with an answer, but ultimately, there are way too many people to list. Throughout my short time at the Goodman School of Business, I have made so many amazing connections and met so many new people. All of these people have made some sort of impact on my life and I have learned so much from them. I would ultimately like to thank all of the amazing student leaders who are so active within the Brock Community and have been able to influence me to become more engaged.

What are your plans for your winter break?

After my last exam on the 19th, I will be heading back home to Markham. While at home I will be spending some time studying and preparing for JDC Central 2016. This will be my first time competing at JDCC and I will be representing Goodman as a part of the Finance team. I can’t wait to participate in the competition and show off my #GoodmanSpirit!

On the 23rd, my family and I will be driving to Florida for the holidays and then boarding a cruise to Mexico. I am really excited because this will be my first time visiting Mexico and I can’t wait to experience the great culture and amazing activities it has to offer! I love to travel (part of the reason I aspire to obtain my CPA designation) and this will be a nice relief after the stress of exams.
