If you’re in St. Catharines this summer, you have an excellent opportunity to make use of the amazing complimentary services that the Goodman Career team offer! With fewer students on-campus, it’s an excellent way to add clarity to your post-Goodman life!
Let’s take a look at the top six value-added services a Career Consultant can provide for you…
6. Assistance with Getting Involved
Everyone from recruiters to fellow students probably tell you about the benefits of getting involved. There are many ways to get involved at Goodman such as joining the executive team of a club or participating in a case competition. The Goodman Career team can provide information and connect you with key individuals who can help jumpstart your involvement.
5. Career Advising
No matter whether you are a BBA, BAcc, MBA, or MAcc student, the Goodman Career team is well-informed on industry trends for all business concentrations and majors. Would you like to know about the job prospects for a degree focusing in Operations Management? Having trouble deciding between public or corporate accounting? The Goodman Career team can offer valuable input to you!
4. Cover Letter/Resume Assistance
Let’s face it – we could all use a cover letter and resume tune-up! Meeting with Goodman Career is a great way to get good feedback and improve your application documents.
3. LinkedIn Advice
Do you have a LinkedIn? Great! Do you have a polished LinkedIn profile that you would be proud to show a recruiter? Not really? No worries! Goodman Career can help you perfect your online presence! They can also show you how to use LinkedIn to connect with industry professionals (like how to customize your invite request) and for career research.
2. Interview Preparation
You visited Marisa or Ashley and they helped you get involved, advised you on your career plan, spruced up your application documents and helped you with your LinkedIn profile. And because of this, you have an interview – congratulations! To ace the interview, you should book an interview prep appointment or mock interview with Goodman Career who can give you information on types of interviews, types of interview questions, how to prepare, what to expect and appropriate follow-up methods.
1. Information Interviews
Informational interviews work in reverse to traditional interviews; students meet with industry professionals and ask them about their career progressions and industry trends for a particular career amongst other things. Information interviews, however, are not an opportunity for you to sell yourself as a candidate. The Goodman Career team can guide you on the intricacies of conducting successful information interviews – they may also be able to connect you with Goodman alumni!
BBA student Meet Shah, who aspires to pursue a career in banking, has already been successful in utilizing Goodman Career’s services. Meet has been able to liaise with key individuals who are already successfully doing what he wants to do. “[Using Goodman Career’s services] gave me first-hand experience on what to expect in the [banking] field as well as develop relationships that will be useful in the future.” Only entering his third year of studies, Meet has met with notable representatives from LinkedIn, Hydro One, TD and BMO.
