The walls of the old east stairwell are coming down, piece by piece, to make way for a new addition that will include significantly more classroom area for the Goodman School of Business.
In this particular phase, workers will demolish the east staircase so they can excavate and replace it with a new extension that will have six classrooms of high-tech teaching space, as well as six large washrooms. The elevator is not being removed, although for safety reasons it will be shut down during much of construction.
Please be advised that the Taro elevator will be temporarily out of service today (Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016) until approximately 12 noon, due to work related to the Goodman School of Business expansion project.
Access to Taro 300 level will be available via Mackenzie Chown A Block 300 level or Plaza 300 level. There is no alternate access via elevator to the 100 or 400 level at this time. Stairwell A on the north side of the building is also available as an alternate. Directional signage has been posted to help find alternate routes.
Construction on the expansion project for the Goodman School of Business home in Taro Hall is making progress. The area to the west of the building which faces the Sir Isaac Brock statue has now been excavated and foundation footings are being poured.
Construction crews have started work on Taro Hall’s exterior and have blocked off the pedestrian walkway closest to Schmon Tower.
The walkway will be closed for approximately six weeks until Nov. 22.
The north stairwell in Taro Hall will also be closed at ground level until approximately Oct. 18 and will be unavailable as an emergency exit during that time. Alternate emergency exits are available through Taro Hall’s other north exit which leads to Jubilee Court, or through the other two exits on the east side of the building. The north stairwell will be available as an emergency exit once again on Oct. 19.
Thank you to everyone who attended yesterday’s event to celebrate the start of construction on the new Goodman School of Business building. More photos will be added soon.
The Brock community is invited to a celebration of the Goodman School of Business expansion Friday, Sept. 16 at 2 p.m. in front of Schmon Tower.
The $22-million project started construction this month, with Cooper Construction preparing the site and staging area between Taro Hall and the Student Alumni Centre.
Over the next two years, the project will see nearly 29,000 square feet of new space added, in addition to the renovation and remodeling of the existing classrooms, offices and common spaces of Taro Hall.
