Sandra Della Porta is a multidisciplinary scholar in Psychology and Education, specializing in early childhood education (ECE). Building on years of practical experience, her research program studies social power and power dynamics as it exists in and across multiple contexts. She advocates for the value of ECE and child and family well-being in and beyond the classroom. Her research plan follows a three-step process: (a) understanding the concept of social power as it exists in multiple systems of a child’s learning and development, from micro- and macro-level social processes (b) identifying systemic power relations in early childhood contexts including early childhood setting, school, and community, identifying inequitable practice that exists within such systems (i.e., systemic barriers), and (c) develop applied practice recommendations for positive power relations fostering social justice.
