Graduating drama students present history with a dark twist

Swell

The year is 1938. A strange prophecy forewarns a young physicist about world cataclysm. Adrift in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, misfits from three continents must choose a side as international conspiracy whorls them towards disaster.

This is the premise of Swell, a full-length play presented by Brock’s Department of Dramatic Arts graduating class on Friday, April 15 and Saturday, April 16. Since September, students have been playing, researching, critiquing and performing. A workshop in December developed into this full-length play.

It is directed by Kasey Dunn, with writing and dramaturgy by Spencer Smith. It was designed by Jacqueline Costa and Nick Carney with video by Caitlin Benton. Much of the acting ensemble also doubles in production roles. Gyllian Raby is the faculty supervisor.

The performances will be in the Black Theatre Studio Room ST103 (Schmon Tower) on Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tickets are $5 and additional donations are welcome. All proceeds support the Marlene Moser Scholarship Fund.
