Festival celebrates creativity of students and faculty

A full slate of events kicked off this month with Industrial Fabric, the Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts‘ annual festival of the arts.

Drama, music and visual arts take centre stage with the festival, which started March 11 and goes until May 1.

This is the first of what will be an annual event, said Marie Balsom, communications officer for the Walker School.

“We are providing an opportunity for people to experience the dynamic vision and creative energy embodied by those involved with the school of fine and performing arts,” she said.

Here’s a sample of the upcoming events:

One Acts Festival (DART3P54)
March 18 and 19, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Upper year directing students present a series of short plays with student actors.
ST103 and ST107

Flooding Violet (DART 4F56)
April 15 at 8 p.m. and April 16 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Senior students present an original, devised play: a noire meditation set in 1938.

Cost: $5 with proceeds donated to the Marlene Moser Scholarship Fund

That Woman: A Sex Play? (faculty)
April 13 to 16 at 8 p.m.
Written and directed by David Fancy, designed by David Vivian, video design by Donna Szoke, performed by Monica Dufault.
