Twenty researchers receive internal grants

Brock researchers have received nearly $65,000 in funding through two internal programs that assist faculty with their research.

Twenty researchers will benefit from the grants, which are:

  • Brock University Advancement Fund (BUAF): A fund professors use to complete preliminary research for a submission to an external granting agency. This internal award also provides modest financial support for special pursuits related to research, known as Special Purpose Grants.
  • Brock SSHRC Institutional Grant (BSIG): A Research Seed Grant that helps faculty develop a program worthy of funding by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.

  • Deborah Zinni (PI), and Mark Julien, Organizational Behaviour, Human Resources, Entrepreneurship and Ethics
  • Spencer Gaynor, Biological Sciences
  • Robert Carlone, Biological Sciences
  • Ping Liang (PI) and Gary Pickering, Biological Sciences
  • Teena Willoughby, Psychology
  • Madelyn Law, Community Health Sciences

BSIG special purpose grant for a conference or workshop:

  • Virginia Reh, Dramatic Arts, and Renée-Claude Breitenstein, Modern Languages, Literatures and Culture

The BSIG research seed grants for spring 2010 –

  • Dave Bouckenooghe, Organizational Behaviour, Human Resources, Entrepreneurship and Ethics
  • Sidney Segalowitz, Psychology
  • Kathryn Belicki, Psychology
  • Tony Volk, Child and Youth Studies
  • Charles Conteh, Political Science
  • Jean Bridge (PI), Visual Arts, and David Vivian, Dramatic Arts
  • Veena Dwivedi, Applied Linguistics
  • R. Angus Smith, Classics.

Brock Research holds two competitions each year for these internal awards, with deadlines on March 20 and Nov. 20.
