University buildings on the main and east campus, and satellite locations will be closed and locked starting Friday, Dec. 21 at 6 p.m. until Wednesday, Jan. 2 at 6 a.m.

Individuals who have access/proxy cards to buildings can enter if they are authorized to do so during this time.

For your personal safety, we ask that you contact Campus Security at ext. 3200 to advise them of your location and to also contact them when you leave the building. Please ensure you have your Brock identification with you and are able to produce it if asked.

Those without a swipe/proxy card access must enter through the Schmon Tower and register at the welcome desk. Campus Security officers will be stationed there between 9 and 11 a.m., and from 1 to 3 p.m.

Everyone must sign in at the welcome desk. You will be asked for identification, the reason for your visit and length of your stay.

If there is no one at the welcome desk when you arrive, call ext. 3200 or use the emergency phone at the podium pillar at the front of the Schmon Tower. An officer will meet you there.

Personal safety is paramount. Lab activities cannot be conducted alone. You must make sure someone knows where you are.

Please contact Campus Security at ext. 3200 when leaving campus.

In case of fire or another emergency, call 911, then phone Campus Security at ext. 3200 to alert them and facilitate a response. In case of fire, pull the fire alarm to notify other building occupants.

The Gibson Library/Matheson Learning Commons will close at 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012 and re-open on Wednesday, Jan. 2 at 8 a.m. The Map Library will close at 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 21 and re-open at 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 2.

Walker Complex Seasonal Operational Hours:
Dec. 21: Open until 4:30 p.m.
Dec. 22 and 23: Open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Dec. 24: Open 6:30 a.m. to noon
Dec. 25 and 26: Closed
Dec. 27, 28, 30 and 31: Open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Dec. 29: Closed
Jan. 1: Closed
Jan. 2 to 4: Open 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

From Dec. 22 to 31, access to the Walker Complex will be limited to the west entrance near the tennis courts.

Buildings with Swipe/Proxy Card Access

The buildings will be accessible to those who have the authority and legitimate reason to enter during off hours and holidays. Please remember that the auto alarm systems are still in effect for off hours, so have your code ready if necessary.

Only select buildings have auto alarm. If you have not been given an access code then your building is not affected. Contact Campus Security at ext. 3200 to inform them that you are in the building for safety and security reasons.

The Cairns Family Health and Bioscience Research Complex

Cairns Levels 1, 4 and 5 will require proxy card use at all times during the holidays.

Residence Winter Break

The residences will be closed from noon on Wednesday, Dec. 19 until noon on Sunday, Jan. 6.

Parking and Campus Roads

Should a significant snowfall occur, major campus roads will be cleared, including lots D and P. Visitors, faculty, staff and students are asked to use these lots. There will be no charge for permit holders to park in these lots over the holiday period.

If you’re aware of any work to be done by contractors or you’re planning to attend the University, email Campus Security at security@brocku.ca before Dec. 14 with specified dates and times.

Brock University identification or contractor identification must be produced.

In the event of a building or grounds-related emergency between Dec. 22 and Jan. 1, inclusive, please call Campus Security at ext. 3200, who will inform facilities management staff. Heating setbacks and ventilation reductions will be in effect during the holidays.

Custodial Services will be provided at the Walker Complex during hours of operation during the holidays.

No Food Service will be available on campus other than vending machines.
