Goodman School of Business launches research fund, scholarships with donation

Brock’s Goodman School of Business is creating three new scholarships and an accounting research fund thanks to a recent donation to the school.

The Certified General Accountants of Ontario is giving $285,000 over five years to the Goodman School to create a Certified General Accountants (CGA) Research of
Excellence fund, which supports and promotes research advancement in accounting.

The money will also be used to offer a trio of scholarships for undergraduate and master’s students in the certified general accountant program of professional studies, as well as for professional development in the school’s accounting department.

The Goodman School of Business celebrated the donation at an event Monday.

“The Goodman School of Business is pleased to be entering into this partnership with CGA Ontario.” said Don Cyr, Business Dean. “The funds provided will be used to support innovative accounting research that will drive the profession forward, and for initiatives that help create an enriched learning environment for our future business leaders.”

The Goodman School of Business is one of nine universities and colleges in Ontario to receive such funding from the CGA, which is a professional body that grants the certified general accountant designation, and oversees the standards, conduct and discipline of its members and students.

There are more than 21,000 CGAs and about 8,000 students working toward their designation.

“We are proud to partner with the Goodman School of Business,” said Doug Brooks, FCGA, CEO, CGA Ontario. “This new partnership will help facilitate new opportunities, successes and achievements for students, academics and financial professionals.”
