Talk will look at the phonetic world of infants

The next talk in the Department of Applied Linguistics’ ongoing speaker series will explore the connections between the types of speech sounds infants are able to perceive, the peculiarities of infant-directed speech – also known as “baby talk” – and the shapes of our world’s sound systems.

Chandan Narayan, assistant professor of linguistics at the University of Toronto, will present his talk, “The Phonetic World of Infants,” on Wednesday, Nov. 21 from 12 noon to 1 p.m. in Sankey Chamber at Brock University.
