A book by Barry Grant has been named a Choice Outstanding Academic Title, an annual honour bestowed by Choice magazine.

The publication awarded Grant’s Shadows of Doubt: Negotiations of Masculinity in American Genre Films, published by Wayne State University Press in the fall. In the book, Grant questions the idea that Hollywood movies reflect moments of crisis in the dominant image of masculinity. He explores genres such as comedies, musicals, horror, science fiction, teen movies and action films.

Grant, a professor of Film Studies, has authored or edited numerous books, including 100 Documentary Films (with Jim Hillier) and Documenting the Documentary: Close Readings of Documentary Film and Video.
