Career and post-grad expo goes mobile

This year’s Career and Post Graduate Expo, designed to help students and alumni find employment and other opportunities, is going mobile.

The annual event, scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 8, now has a mobile phone app that allows attendees to learn more about the displays and plan which tables to visit in advance, said Lisa Kuiper, Career Services events and marketing co-ordinator. The expo features exhibits by prospective employers, volunteer agencies and post-graduate institutions.

Kuiper went to an event earlier this year that had an app, and she and other attendees found it valuable. She thought the same thing might work for the expo.

“We thought this would be a good way to generate some excitement for the event,” she said. “Already we’ve had students say, ‘This is cool. We really like this.’”

The app includes a exhibitor list and floor plan. Attendees can also select which tables they want to visit in advance and plan a route for themselves around the fair.

There are more than 120 employers, organizations and colleges exhibiting at the expo. This includes Apple Canada, Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, Edward Jones, VON Hamilton Niagara, Niagara Health System and several police services. The goal is to explore career and post-graduate options, Kuiper said.

“We want to help them become more confident in their career choices.”

The expo will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Ian Beddis Gym. Anyone who plans to attend should register at careerzone.brocku.ca. You can also register the day of the event. There is no charge for students and alumni.
