Artwork from Vancouver’s streetscape comes to Brock

Canoe by Donna Szoke

Donna Szoke’s artwork is on prominent display in Vancouver’s city streets. Now Niagara residents have a chance to view it at Brock.

Szoke‘s “Canoe” is playing on the CBC screen on Hamilton at Georgia in downtown Vancouver. The two-minute animation by the visiting artist and associate professor of Visual Arts will also show during an opening at Brock on Thursday, Sept. 22 from 4 to 7 p.m.

“Canoe” depicts the silhouette of a canoeist and moving canoe seamlessly replaced with a background image of moving water and sky. It was created by digitally redrawing 1,800 frames.

The animation is on display during September on the Digital Art Wall in the Matheson Learning Commons.

The opening will be at the Sean O’Sullivan Theatre. It is free and open to the public.
