The first Convocation ceremony was held today. The ceremonies are being streamed live online.
More than 3,300 students will graduate this week at Brock’s 2011 Spring Convocation, which takes place during seven ceremonies from Tuesday, June 7, to Saturday, June 11.
All ceremonies will be held in the Walker Complex at the west end of campus, in the Ian D. Beddis gymnasium. There will be an outdoor reception for graduates, family members and other guests after each ceremony. This week’s ceremonies will also be streamed live at livestream.com/brockuniversity.
Tickets are not required. All guests are welcome.
The seven ceremonies will proceed as follows:
Tuesday, June 7, 10 a.m. – Faculty of Humanities; Faculty of Mathematics and Science
- Professor Neta Gordon, English Language and Literature, will be presented with the 2011 Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching, and will address Convocation
- Professor Bozidar Mitrovic, Physics, will be presented with the 2011 Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching
- Humanities Board of Trustees Spirit of Brock medals winners: Christine Rougoor, Visual Arts (undergraduate) and Elizabeth Cherniak, Comparative Literatures and Arts (graduate)
- Humanities Dean’s Medals: Christie Adams and Donna Pearce
- Mathematics and Science Board of Trustees Spirit of Brock medals winners: Mark Gordon Prodger, Biomedical Sciences (undergraduate) and Ivana Komljenovic, Physics (graduate)
- Mathematics and Science Dean’s Medals: Nicholas Borich and Vincenzo Coia
- Val Andrei Fajardo, an MSc student in Mathematics and statistics, will be presented with the Governor General’s Gold Medal, awarded to the student who achieves the highest academic standing at the graduate level
Wednesday, June 8, 10 a.m. – Faculty of Education (Hamilton campus)
- Professor Jennifer Rowsell, Canada Research Chair in Multiliteracies, will address Convocation
- Education Board of Trustees Spirit of Brock medal winner: Angela McGillion (undergraduate)
- Education Dean’s Medal: Nicole Macri
Wednesday, June 8, 2 p.m. – Faculty of Education (St. Catharines campus)
- Professor Michael Manley-Casimir, Graduate and Undergraduate Studies in Education, will be presented with the 2011 Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching, and will address Convocation
- Education Board of Trustees Spirit of Brock medal winner: Danielle Hourigan, Education (graduate)
- Education Dean’s Medal: Cara Crandlemire
Thursday, June 9, 10 a.m. – Faculty of Applied Health Sciences
- An honorary degree will be presented to Claude Bouchard, professor and John W. Barton, Senior Endowed Chair in Genetics and Nutrition, Human Genomics Laboratory, Pennington Biomedical Research Center, and he will address Convocation
- Professor Tim O’Connell, Recreation and Leisure Studies, will be presented with the 2011 Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching
- Applied Health Sciences Board of Trustees Spirit of Brock medal winners: Jonathan Menchella, Community Health Sciences (undergraduate) and Ben Leber, Applied Health Science (graduate)
- Applied Health Sciences Dean’s Medals: Paul Gerard Corkery and Catherine Johnson
Friday, June 10, 10 a.m. – Faculty of Social Sciences
- An honorary degree will be presented to General Alfred John Gardyne Drummond de Chastelain, retired Canadian soldier, diplomat and until recently, chairman, Independent International Commission on Decommissioning (Northern Ireland), who will also deliver the Convocation address
- Professor Tanya Martini, Psychology, will be presented with the 2011 Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching
- Social Sciences Board of Trustees Spirit of Brock medals winners: Marie Claire Bouchal, Communications, Popular Culture and Film (undergraduate) and Hilda Osae Affum, Political Science (graduate)
Friday, June 10, 2 p.m. – Faculty of Social Sciences
- Professor Stan Sadava, Psychology, will address Convocation
- Social Sciences Dean’s Medal: Aidan Miller
Saturday, June 11, 10 a.m. – Faculty of Business
- An honorary degree will be presented to Michael McCain, President and CEO, Maple Leaf Foods Inc., and he will also address Convocation
- Professor Mark Julien, Organizational Behaviour, Human Resources, Entrepreneurship and Ethics, will be presented with the 2011 Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching
- Business Board of Trustees Spirit of Brock medals winners: Darryl Moyers, PROGRAM (undergraduate) and David Hurst, Business Administration (graduate)
- Business Dean’s Medal: Matthew Greenfield
