Thrive Week is running January 20 to 24, 2025! Join the Student Wellness and Accessibility Centre and Student Life and Success for a campus-wide celebration of mental health, well-being, and connection.
This week is packed with tips and events to help you thrive. Let’s make it a celebration of positivity, connection, and self-care!
Thrive: A National Movement
Thrive Week began in 2009 at the University of British Columbia as an idea between two colleagues.
Over a decade later, schools across Canada have joined the Thrive network to educate, promote, and advocate for mental health and well-being.
The 4 Elements of Thriving in University Life
1. Build Meaningful
Connections
University is the perfect time to grow your social circle. Whether making new friends, joining clubs, or chatting with classmates, building connections helps you feel supported and less alone.
Quick Tips:
Join a BUSU club.
Check out events on ExperienceBU.
Attend a Student Life and Success event.
2. Take Care of
Your Body and Mind
Good physical and mental health are key to thriving. A quick workout can boost your energy, while mindfulness practices like journaling or breathing exercises help manage stress.
Quick Tips:
Take a walk between classes.
Try a mindfulness app like Headspace.
Keep healthy snacks like fruit or nuts on hand for an energy boost.
3. Give Back and
Make a Difference
Helping others feels great and gives you a sense of purpose. Small acts of kindness can brighten someone’s day—and yours too!
Quick Tips:
Visit the Volunteer Fair on Thurs, Jan 23rd.
Volunteer for a local organization.
Support a friend with an assignment.
4. Make Time for Fun
Life at university can be busy, but having fun is essential for managing stress. Laughter, play, and relaxation help recharge your mind.
Quick Tips:
Schedule “fun time” just like a class.
Attend a campus concert or event.
Watch your favourite show or try something new with friends.
