Thanks in part to support from the Government of Canada Niagara has a new bioscience, biotechnology and biomanufacturing business incubator known as BioLinc.

On January 25, 2012 St Catharines M.P. Rick Dykstra announced that Innovate Niagara, which includes Brock University, would receive $843,500 from Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario’s (FedDev) Prosperity Fund to establish the infrastructure for the BioLinc project.

BioLinc, operated by Brock’s Goodman School of Business, is part of Innovate Niagara’s network of incubators. It includes both a physical incubation space, in Brock’s Cairn’s Family Health and Bio-science Research Complex, and a dynamic web portal. It leverages University expertise and community resources to assist entrepreneurs in establishing and developing their new ventures. The physical incubator is geared towards helping start-up companies in the health, bioscience and biomanufacturing sectors while the virtual incubator supports a broader range of companies.

Through initiatives such as BioLinc, Brock University is cultivating innovation in Niagara by connecting innovators with the resources necessary to commercialize their research breakthroughs. It is helping to facilitate the transition of Niagara’s economy into a new knowledge and information based economy by promoting entrepreneurship, innovation, employment opportunities and growth.
