Brock University's 3,500-pound bronze statue of Maj.-Gen. Sir Isaac Brock was professionally cleaned and waxed Tuesday, May 21 — its first maintenance since arriving on campus four years ago. Created by Canadian artist Danek Mozdzenski, the statue was washed with a special conservation soap before Brett Davis, artist, sculptor and conservator from Age of Bronze, and Sue Maltby, conservator from Maltby and Associates, applied a protective wax coating using a brush. After the wax settles, the two will buff it with a soft cloth, much like shining one's shoes. The protective wax will continue to help the statue shed water and protect it from elements including rain, sun, wind and bird droppings, which are acidic and can be corrosive to the metal.
