The Brock University community gathered to celebrate a year of successes during the annual President’s update event on Thursday, Oct. 8. President and Vice-Chancellor Lesley Rigg, alongside senior leaders and members of the University community, gathered on Oct. 8 to reflect on the past year at Brock, celebrate achievements and look ahead to what comes next.
The President’s update to the community featured the introduction of Brock’s 2025-26 Annual Report, highlighting accomplishments across the four strategic directions of the Institutional Strategic Plan, with research, teaching and student excellence woven throughout.
The Annual Report also includes the first-year results against the University Action Plan (UAP), providing an early measure of Brock’s advancement toward its 2030 goals.
Together, these milestones show how the University has moved decisively from vision to action, bringing Institutional priorities to life in tangible ways.
“It’s been an outstanding year here at Brock. Every day, I see our faculty, staff and students find new ways to make an impact and I’m so pleased to recognize the incredible effort behind our success,” says Rigg. “Looking ahead, we should all be excited about what comes next for our University and the opportunity we have to build on the progress of the past several years.”
After President Rigg welcomed the crowd in the Goodman Atrium and online, the event’s additional speakers took to the podium:
- Alana Lowe, Associate Director,Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Education and Outreach, delivered the African-Canadian Ancestral Acknowledgement, following the Land Acknowledgement.
- Anna Lathrop, Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Special Advisor to the Provost, introduced the new UAP dashboard and explained how it will be used to monitor progress against the indicators of success, better understand how Brock is gaining momentum, identify where additional attention may be required and illustrate how our collective efforts are contributing to the University’s long-term goals.
- Newman Sze, Canada Research Chair in Mechanisms of Health and Disease and Professor of Health Sciences, highlighted research demonstrating Brock’s ability to translate discoveries into real-world impact with tangible benefits.
- Divya KaurMatta, Associate Professor of Chemistry, shared her teaching philosophy and efforts to create diverse opportunities and inclusive pathways to success that are strengthening the future of Brock students and the University.
- Ivie Osagie,a Computer Science student, reflected on herexperience and how the University and Brock LINC encouraged her success and entrepreneurial spirit.
- Elizabeth Greene,Professor of Classics and Archaeology, shared insights from leading field research projects around the world and fostering meaningful local and global connections through knowledge mobilization and scholarly exchange.
