Brock University welcomed Niagara’s newly arrived immigrants and local community leaders to campus on May 19 for the Newcomer and Community Soccer Game, which was hosted in partnership with Bridges Niagara. Niagara’s newly arrived immigrants and local community leaders gathered at Brock University on May 19 to support the Niagara Folk Arts Festival and celebrate the region’s diversity.
The Newcomer and Community Soccer Game (Harmony Cup) at Alumni Field brought participants — including St. Catharines Mayor Mat Siscoe and city councillors — together for friendly competition and connection, highlighting the power of sport to build belonging. Representatives from Brock also shared remarks during the event.
The match was hosted by Brock and long-standing community partner Bridges Niagara, formerly known as the Niagara Folk Arts Multicultural Centre. The two organizations strengthened their shared commitment to supporting newcomers by renewing their Memorandum of Understanding in July 2025.
