Brock grad Even Zhang (MBA ’25) returned to Brock University to snap photos of the cherry blossom trees in front of Schmon Tower on Tuesday, April 21.For many in the Brock and wider Niagara communities, the blooming of the University’s cherry blossom trees is a much-anticipated sign that spring has arrived.
That annual tradition is now underway, with the beauty of Brock’s Sakura trees drawing in students, faculty, staff and visitors eager to take in the blooms in the green space in front of Schmon Tower.
The seasonal display returns for only a short time each year, with blossoms typically lasting up to 10 days, depending on weather conditions. Cherry blossoms can also be found near Residence 8 on the east side of campus.
Brock’s Sakura trees were donated in 2003 by the Japanese government as a symbol of friendship between Japan and Canada. The University’s 200 trees were part of the broader Sakura Tree Planting Project, which saw 3,000 Sakura trees planted across Ontario.
